Illinois - Answer to Complaint
In Illinois, the Answer to a civil case Complaint is a
formal response filed by the defendant in a lawsuit to
address the allegations made against them by the plaintiff.
The Answer must be submitted within a specific time frame
after the defendant is served with the Complaint. In the
Answer, the defendant either admits or denies each of the
plaintiff's allegations and may also assert any affirmative
defenses or counter-claims they have against the plaintiff.
The purpose of the Answer is to allow the defendant to defend
their position and present their side of the case before the
court, helping to shape the direction of the legal
proceedings. Failure to file a timely Answer may result in a
default judgment being entered against the defendant.
